How To Play

What is MurphBall and how do you play?
MurphBall is a fun, new sport that develops cat-like reflexes while improving fitness through competitive play.
Playing MurphBall will also sharpen your focus and elevate your mood.
The murphball is a 6-knobbed reflex ball which produces an unpredictable bounce.
The ball can bounce in any direction challenging your reflexes and reaction time.
MurphBall is a 1 vs 1 format with a simple 1-point scoring system.
After set-up (see diagram and video) each player stands behind their boards.
Player 1 underhand tosses the ball over the net onto player 2’s board.
Player 2 must catch the ball off one bounce only.
It’s recommended to use the same hand you caught the ball with to toss it back.
If you’re right-handed and caught the ball with your left hand, tossing with your left-hand will help you develop better left-hand coordination.
Trapping or catching the ball with 2 hands is acceptable when necessary.
It’s a simple toss-bounce-catch-toss rally back and forth until:
A player misses the board - 1 pt awarded to opponent.
A player tosses the ball into the net - 1 pt awarded to opponent
A player misses or drops the ball - 1 pt awarded to opponent.
A simple 1 point system.
Just pick up the ball and start a new rally after a lost point.
The only time the ball is thrown back to the other player is after a “snipah” or a net shot.
A game to 7 points (win by 2 or sudden death) is the go-to scoring for a match.
Feel free to apply house rules and scoring changes for shorter or longer games.
Be creative.
What is a sniper shot or a “snipah?”
This special shot is when the murphball hits the edge of the board and bounces out at an angle. The angled bounce must be knee high or above to be legal.
If the “snipah” is knee high or above and missed, the tosser is awarded 1 point and the ball back!
If the ball angles off below the knee and is missed it’s a “snipah redo.”
This simply means a do-over for the player that threw the ball.
If the “snipah” is caught the rally continues.
What’s a Hacky?
The ”Hacky” is short for a hacky sack shot.
It is a legal play catching the ball off the body, leg or foot when necessary.
Do-overs are always recommended if anything is questionable.
See you on the beach!
